Sove Lavi Hosts NOAH Medical Mission 2008 to Haiti Providing Care to Some 8,000 Patients
DALLAS, Aug. 13 2008
In line with its mission to provide basic healthcare to the poorest of the poor in Haiti, Sové Lavi recently served as host to a group of medical practitioners who traveled to some 10 medical centers in Haiti in order to extend much-needed healthcare services.
Sponsored by the National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH), a group of 60 medical professionals, including Howard University medical students, treated some 8,000 patients residing in Cité Soleil, Arachaie, Soleno, Port-Salut, Roche-Jabouin, Mirebalais, and Pont-Sondé. The visit by the NOAH team represented the most recent of some 5 medical missions which have to-date been undertaken to the clinic in Pont-Sonde, the facility established under the auspices of Sove Lavi.
The team benefitted from the support of Dr. Joe Baptiste, Chair and Founder of NOAH. In addition, several Sové Lavi Board members assisted in organizing the mission including Dr. Berthie Labissiere, Dr. Gary Jean Baptiste, and Jean Michel Voltaire, Esq. Dr. Serge Parisien also worked with the mission, while Dumas Simeus accompanied the team to Haiti.
Dr. Labissiere has been a leader of this mission for the past 4 years. “It is my great privilege to return to my birth country to give much needed medical care to the poor of Haiti. The patients are so happy and grateful. They are truly a blessing to all of us on the mission”, said Dr. Labissiere.
“I joined them during most of their clinic visits and was very impressed with the work they did and the compassionate way in which they treated the patients. In some of the clinics, the team distributed small care packages of rice, beans, oil and other miscellaneous items” said Mr. Simeus, founder of Sové Lavi.
Through its medical missions, Sové Lavi continues to provide access to quality health care and to bring medical supplies and information directly to poor communities, an important component of the organization’s goals.
Sové Lavi is a 501c3 non-profit organization that serves the poor in Haiti with medical care, water and education.
